Just announced! We are so excited to be offering this workshop. Join us for our inaugural run of the iphoneographers’ london workshop coming up Sunday March 25th 2012, 11:00 am.
Mobile phone photography tends for many people to be just a quick capture. A document, a record, maybe a fun snapshot where a camera would have been good to have but the camera phone was the next best thing. As technology advances there is a revolution of photography that is taking place – an art form and creative appreciation for this compact device. From apps to photo specific social networks people are jumping on board using the camera phone not only as a recording device but as a creative tool. In our iphoneographers’ london workshop you will learn to use the mobile phone to see and photograph in new and creative ways.
This brief lead afternoon will mix team competitions and individual challenges that will raise the bar in both creative pursuit and social media adventure. Using the flexible and uncomplicated nature of the camera phone technology, the art of the snapshot and a bit of opportunity in the making we will produce an afternoon of images that will look exciting. In addition to visual exercises and briefs you will learn about app tricks and methods, the inclusion of font, and post process wash and ring techniques as you work to produce unique looks to your imagery.
Level: Beginner to Intermediate.
Course cost : £45.00 per person.
Location: TBA but you can count on the exciting urban backdrop of London.

Karl delivered the Saturday London on Location workshop and reports how fabulous it was. The group met at the Southbank where they were introduced to some camera and exposure fundamentals before they set off on three compositional briefs. After a visual warm up and some beautiful light the practice was set for applications and exercises which moved photographers from an automatic reliance to decision making in both the technical and conceptual using more advanced camera operations. As they moved into evening light they had the opportunity to work with the challenging situation of low light moving into night photography. The tripods came out and it was certainly worth carrying them for the day. The group managed the diving temperatures, and the photography they produced was top notch. The “graduating” assignment shooting the London Eye looked spectacular in crisp winter night light.
Having had a day of photographing skateboarders, speeding buses and taxis, an acre of books for sale, boat traffic on the Thames, pub life and night life along the riverside, glowing indigo skies and a gorgeous urban sunset the group made their way back to the Royal Festival Hall for a hot drink and a wind up of the day’s activities. A successful day all around and the group did an excellent job of getting concepts and the technical down to move from “guessing” work to “visualising and creating” work. Well done!
Our next London on Location is:
SATURDAY February 11th, 3-7pm and February 18th, 3-7 pm.

If you remember in summer 2011 we put on a series of workshops for the Roehampton Older People’s Network. There were guided photo walkabouts that took place once a month led by a retired professor of city planning and us folks at The Mango Lab. The work was to be a calendar but they changed it to a mobile community exhibition. Well, we completed the design of the project and hear that it went up in the Roehampton Public Library this week. It will remain there for the week and then begins a traveling show as it moves around to various locations and private and public venues in the Roehampton and Wandsworth area. Word has it that it is a fabulous success so congratulations to everyone who participated.
Well we’ve been so busy with preparing the m3 exhibition that we’ve had hardly the time to provide an update. So here it is. Some images taken on the day by Julia and Emma.
Brief and workshop preparations.
A great turnout. Over 20 participants came out to enjoy a gorgeous day.
We broke into two groups and worked through some of the details.
The day was so gorgeous we just couldn’t wait to get outside.
Technical assistance and on site creative direction were par for the course.
The brief had us looking every where for a response.
really….E V E R Y W H E R E ! ! ! !
